The organization will further this initiative by hosting an annual Chinese Calligraphy Sip & Paint event. This initiative is intended to exposed the Bahamian public to the basics of the Chinese language, cultural norms, and etiquette in a relaxed atmosphere.

Participants are be exposed to the basics of Chinese language, including standard salutations, translation of common Bahamian phrases, and writing common Bahamian names using Chinese Characters. The goal is to create interest among Bahamians to want to explore and learn more about Chinese language and culture. The BCFA also supports the Confucius Institute, and its goal to promote Chinese language and culture in high schools and at the university level in The Bahamas.

It is important the young Bahamians are introduced to Chinese culture in a fun way, and the BCFA believes that exposing young persons to Chinese kites, how they are built and how to fly them is a good way to initially expose this culture to young Bahamians.

This initiative is intended to be a fun learning experience, ensuring to exposed less privileged children from the various children’s homes, underserved communities, boys and girls clubs, as well as youth groups to this fun learning activity. The BCFA will partner with the corporate Bahamas to assist with executing this initiative.

Given the important of physical fitness, and the lessons that team competition teaches individuals the association will expose young Bahamians to Chinese athletic culture via Ping Pong. Even though this game was not invested in China, it is considered to be the national sport of the People’s Republic of China, and serves as a good way to promote Chinese culture.

This event will be targeted at young Bahamians in the high-schools, exposing them to the game, allowing them to form teams and compete for a prize. The BCFA will work with the Bahamas Ping Pong Federation to promote and execute this event, and will secure sponsorship support from the business community.

The promotion of trade between China and the Bahamas is very important to the economic growth of the Bahamas, and in cultivating the next generation of Bahamian entrepreneurs and merchants. This initiative will be realized via the conducting of trade missions to China specifically focused on engaging Small and Medium sized businesses, as well as budding entrepreneurs, and allowing them the opportunity to establish mutually beneficial commercial relationships with Chinese companies.

The BCFA will identify trade shows in China that best fit with commercial opportunities in the Bahamas, and work with the Chinese Embassy to organize trade missions to these trade shows. The BCFA intends to execute a minimum of one trade mission to China per year.

There are opportunities for Bahamians to attend universities in China on scholarships provided by the Chinese Government. These scholarships cover all university expenses, except for travel to and from China, and allow students to study in multiple subject areas ranging from technical to liberal arts studies.

The BCFA will promote these scholarship opportunities, and assist the Bahamas Ministry of Foreign Affairs with identifying Bahamian student candidates for these scholarships, and then assisting these students with their transition to university in China.
